MySource History

The MySource project started in early 2000 when Squiz.net chose to package the code from many ad-hoc customer solutions into a single coherent CMS package.

The original releases of the CMS were so popular that increasing client demand caused Squiz and other parties to further develop MySource. The most recent non-Matrix release of MySource is MySource 2.10 which is available for download from http://mysource.squiz.net and is actively used by thousands of people from all over world. The MySource 2 series was so successful that Gartner rated it as one of the world's Top 5 open source CMS in November 2002.

In early 2003 work began on MySource Matrix: the third version in the MySource product suite. MySource Matrix is a complete rewrite of the MySource 2.x packages, taking all the lessons learnt from the previous versions to build an architecture that will scale well into the future.

All parts of MySource have been re-considered including:

  • An extensible asset based architecture
  • A more intuitive user interface
  • Stricter coding and documentation standards
  • Tight architectural control
  • A new open source licence designed to encourage contribution from the community
  • An a suite of new functionality typically associated with high end CMS.

The first production website using MySource Matrix went live in November 2003 for the Australian Government Information Office. It was soon followed by the RailCorp website (the NSW rail authority).

MySource 3.1.0 RC1, launched on the 1st July 2004, is the first publicly released version of MySource Matrix.

Since that date there have been 4 new significant version releases and dozens of interim releases. MySource Matrix is widely used across Australia by many private and public sector organisations.
